EE&D provided construction project management services for ConEdison Solutions during the construction of a $5 million Energy Savings Performance Contract project at the Coast Guard Base in Boston. The project included the replacement of a 150 ton absorption chiller and many other smaller chiller and air conditioner systems with one central 600 ton centrifugal chiller plant to serve 4 buildings on the base. Other measures included in the project were; a lighting retrofit, installation of a new Energy Management System, replacing many air handling units, modifying ductwork, steam lines and heaters to improve the overall comfort on the base.
The project was very challenging in that the facility is an active Coast Guard base and is the Northeast headquarters for Homeland Security. During the project the Democratic National Convention for the 2004 presidential race was held in Boston, and the base was the headquarters for security for the convention.
