Because it takes more energy to heat and cool larger buildings we use something called Energy Use Intensity to compare how efficient any given building is. This measurement takes building size out of the equation by calculating how much energy is used on average for a small portion of the buildings area. In this case, we are measuring the energy used in kBtu by each square foot of building area in the last 12 months.
